Climate change is increasingly understood to be a significant obstacle to sustainable development. Besides, climate change impacts could negate the progress made in fulfilling the goals of sustainable development. On the other hand, limiting greenhouse gas emissions will eventually depend on the development of underlying economic and technical systems. Fighting climate change requires greater integration of adaptation and mitigation measures into all-encompassing sustainable development initiatives.
Honorable Speaker, Bangladesh Parliament
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury (born 6 October 1966) is a Bangladeshi politician who has served as the first female Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad since April 2013. At 46 years of age, she became the youngest to assume the office. She was also the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association between 2014 and 2017. She previously served as the state minister of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh.

Mr. Md Tazul Islam, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, is a prominent political personality, successful businessman and a reputed social worker of the country. He was born in 1955 in a respectable muslim family of the village Pomgaon of Monohorganj Upazila of Comilla district. He is the proud son of Alhaj Julfikar Ali and Mst. Anwara Begum.
He started his student life in Pomgaon Government Primary School. He completed secondary and higher secondary level education from Pomgaon High School and Nobab Foijunnesa Government College respectively. He completed his graduation and post-graduation from the University of Chittagong. Afterwards he obtained Diploma in Accounting & Finance and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the prestigious Aston University and Southern University of London.
In his illustrious career he established many industries, insurance companies, banks and other institutions that are contributing in the overall development of the country. He is also associated with the endeavor of publishing a daily newspaper in order to mobilize general mass for adorning honesty, sincerity and patriotism.
Mr. Tazul Islam is actively involved in politics from his student life to build “Sonar Bangla”, a country free from poverty, hunger and all forms of discriminations & oppressions, which was the dream of Bongobondhu, the Father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Motivated by the spirit of the Father of the nation, he participated the National Elections with the Symbol “Traditional Boat” (Nouka) and become Member of Parliament (MP) in the year 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018. This time honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him as Minister and has given the charge of Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. In the previous terms he performed as the member of parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Home, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning. He was also the president of the parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. During his carrier as a businessman and politician, spanning over 40 years Mr. Tazul Islam garnered diversified experience particularly in dealing with public and private sector policy formulation.
He led Bangladesh Missions in United Nations, Asian Development Bank, JICA etc. in several times. He also visited USA, France, UK, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, China and many other countries for government and personal purposes.

Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad is an eminent economist and environment and climate change expert.
Currently, he is the chairman of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation, the largest rural development organisation in Bangladesh and of Dhaka School of Economics at the University of Dhaka, where, among others subjects, environmental economics is taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr Ahmad was the coordinator of Bangladesh Climate Change Negotiation Team at UNFCCC, 2009-2016.
Dr Ahmad served as a coordinating lead/ lead author at Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCCC) for Third and Fourth Assessments and as a member of the Executive Committee of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under Kyoto Protocol.
Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad has to his credit a large number of publications including on environment, climate change, water resources and energy. His book (jointly with Richard Warrick) - Climate Change and Sea Level Rise: Implications for Bangladesh, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers of the Netherlands in 1996, was the first major publication on Bangladesh concerning climate change.

Md Atiqul Islam, born on July 1, 1961, in Daudkandi, Comilla, is a distinguished public servant and accomplished leader. As the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), he has spearheaded positive transformations in the city. With a background in successful entrepreneurship and founding Islam Group in the garment industry, Atiqul Islam brings a unique blend of business acumen and civic leadership to his role. His efforts have garnered electoral victories, reflecting the trust and support of the community he serves. His commitment to ethical practices and social welfare is evident in his work against child labor and his establishment of improved healthcare facilities for garment workers. His leadership and dedication have earned him accolades such as the Commercially Important Person (CIP) award and recognition from Walmart for entrepreneurial excellence.

AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, MP, was born on November 10, 1965 in an aillustrious Muslim family of Shariatpur district. His father Engineer Al-hajj Md. Abul Hashem Mia is a freedom fighter and mother Begum Ashrafun Neesa was a mother of distinguished children (Ratnagarbha).
Mr. Enamul Hoque Shameem completed higher secondary school certificate from Dhaka Residential Model School and College and obtained graduation and post-graduation degree from Jahangirnagar University.
He was the President of Bangladesh Chattra League, Jahangirnagar University unit from 1984 to 1988. He was also the Vice-President (VP) of Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUSCU) from 1989 to 1991. He was the elected Senate and Syndicate member of Jahangirnagar University.
Mr. Shameem was the President of Bangladesh Chattra League from 1994 to 1998. He was the central member and organizing secretary of Bangladesh Awami League. He was imprisoned many times for political cases. He was severely injured at 21 August granade attack.
He has been elected as a Member of Parliament from 222 Shariatpur-2 constituency in Eleventh Parliament election held on 30 December, 2018. He took oath as the Deputy Minister on the 7th January, 2019.
Mr. Shameem is the founder of Port City International University, Chattogram and Member, Board of Trustees. He is the founder of Shariatpur Charbhaga Banghabandhu Adarsha High School & College, Naria Rajnagar Adarsha High School, founder member secretary of Haji Shariatullah University College. He also established many social and religious institutions. He served as an independent director of National Bank, Bangladesh Limited.
Mr. Shameem travelled many countries with Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina such as Saudi Arabia, United States, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and India. Beside these he also travelled United Kingdom, France, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hungery and China. He performed the holly Hajj.
Mr. Shameem is a proud father of two daughters. His wife Tahmina Khatun is a high official of the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh

Nahim Razzaq is a Bangladeshi politician and member of the Bangladesh Awami League. He has been elected for the consecutive third time as a member of parliament at the Bangladesh Parliament from Shariatpur-3 constituency. Nahim is currently a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He received the Junior Chamber International- Top 10 Outstanding Youth Person (TOYP) award in 2015 in Bangladesh.
He has served in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and Ministry of Youth and Sports. Nahim is also an adviser of E-CAB (E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh). Nahim is also engaged in addressing climate change issues as the Convenor of Climate Parliament Bangladesh.
EU Ambassador to Bangladesh
Charles Whiteley is a Dutch and British citizen. After reading law at Downing College, Cambridge and qualifying as a barrister in the UK, he began working for the European Union in 1999. He worked for 6 years in the Human Rights and Democracy Unit of DG External Relations, with responsibilities including UN and OSCE matters, the rights of persons with disabilities and the rights of children.
Charles Whiteley was posted to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in 2005-2009 as Deputy Head of Mission covering political, trade and press matters. He then served in Indonesia from 2009-2012 leading on political, trade and press issues.
From 2012-2015 he was political advisor to the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, supporting political dialogues with partner countries and EU engagement with the G7.
From 2015-19 he served as First Counsellor/Head of Division for Human Rights and Social Affairs at the EU Delegation to the United Nations in New York, acting as lead negotiator on several UN resolutions, including the UNGA resolution on the Rohingya refugee crisis. Between 2019 and 2021 he was First Counsellor/Head of Political, Press and Information in Hong Kong.
He was appointed as EU Ambassador/Head of Delegation to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in September 2021.
