Objectives
The main objectives of the Regional Climate Summit 2023 are:
- To bring together policymakers, scientists, experts, and relevant stakeholders to discuss and exchange ideas on how to mitigate the impact of climate change and foster sustainable development in the South Asian region.
- To promote renewable energy and identify the challenges and opportunities for its adoption in the South Asian region.
- To identify ways to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives.
- To discuss waste and water management strategies and policies that can help to address the impact of climate change.
- To discuss strategies to reduce air pollution and promote clean air initiatives in the South Asian region.
Expected Outcome
The Regional Climate Summit 2023 is expected to achieve the following outcomes:
- Identify the challenges and opportunities for the adoption of renewable energy in the South Asian region.
- Identify ways to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives.
- Develop water and waste management strategies and policies that can help to address the impact of climate change.

Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury (born 6 October 1966) is a Bangladeshi politician who has served as the first female Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad since April 2013. At 46 years of age, she became the youngest to assume the office. She was also the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association between 2014 and 2017. She previously served as the state minister of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh.

Mr. Md Tazul Islam, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, is a prominent political personality, successful businessman and a reputed social worker of the country. He was born in 1955 in a respectable muslim family of the village Pomgaon of Monohorganj Upazila of Comilla district. He is the proud son of Alhaj Julfikar Ali and Mst. Anwara Begum.
He started his student life in Pomgaon Government Primary School. He completed secondary and higher secondary level education from Pomgaon High School and Nobab Foijunnesa Government College respectively. He completed his graduation and post-graduation from the University of Chittagong. Afterwards he obtained Diploma in Accounting & Finance and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the prestigious Aston University and Southern University of London.
In his illustrious career he established many industries, insurance companies, banks and other institutions that are contributing in the overall development of the country. He is also associated with the endeavor of publishing a daily newspaper in order to mobilize general mass for adorning honesty, sincerity and patriotism.
Mr. Tazul Islam is actively involved in politics from his student life to build “Sonar Bangla”, a country free from poverty, hunger and all forms of discriminations & oppressions, which was the dream of Bongobondhu, the Father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Motivated by the spirit of the Father of the nation, he participated the National Elections with the Symbol “Traditional Boat” (Nouka) and become Member of Parliament (MP) in the year 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018. This time honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him as Minister and has given the charge of Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. In the previous terms he performed as the member of parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Home, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning. He was also the president of the parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. During his carrier as a businessman and politician, spanning over 40 years Mr. Tazul Islam garnered diversified experience particularly in dealing with public and private sector policy formulation.
He led Bangladesh Missions in United Nations, Asian Development Bank, JICA etc. in several times. He also visited USA, France, UK, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, China and many other countries for government and personal purposes.

As the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), he has spearheaded positive transformations in the city. With a background in successful entrepreneurship and founding Islam Group in the garment industry, Atiqul Islam brings a unique blend of business acumen and civic leadership to his role. His efforts have garnered electoral victories, reflecting the trust and support of the community he serves. His commitment to ethical practices and social welfare is evident in his work against child labor and his establishment of improved healthcare facilities for garment workers. His leadership and dedication have earned him accolades such as the Commercially Important Person (CIP) award and recognition from Walmart for entrepreneurial excellence.

Nahim Razzaq is a Bangladeshi politician and member of the Bangladesh Awami League. He has been elected for the consecutive third time as a member of parliament at the Bangladesh Parliament from Shariatpur-3 constituency. Nahim is currently a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He received the Junior Chamber International- Top 10 Outstanding Youth Person (TOYP) award in 2015 in Bangladesh.
He has served in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and Ministry of Youth and Sports. Nahim is also an adviser of E-CAB (E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh). Nahim is also engaged in addressing climate change issues as the Convenor of Climate Parliament Bangladesh.
