Shirin Lira

Programme Manager, Governance, Climate Change and Environment

Shirin Lira is an experienced legal and development professional; has been working in the field of human rights, justice, rule of law, governance, migration, climate change and environmental justice for more than 15 years. At present, Ms Shirin is working at the Embassy of Switzerland as Programme Manager, Governance, Climate Change and Environment. Previously, she led several programme funded by UKAID, European Union in promoting justice, rule of law, good governance, transparency, accountability, and fostering systemic change. She has worked with several international and national organisations including British Council, Palladium, UNDP, DAI, Maxwell Stamp, Oxfam, International Working Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), Nagorik Uddyog, BLAST, Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA), Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International in different capacity. She has extensive experience in developing constructive partnership and relationship management with government institutions, development partners, political actors, NGOs, CSOS , academia, private sectors, community people and youth in particular. Her key expertise includes but not limited to programme development, management, strategic, thematic and technical guidance, capacity and knowledge development, political economy analysis, advocacy and policy influence, networking and partnership building. She has also served as an Adjunct Faculty of the department of Law and Justice in Jahangirnagar University and School of Law, BRAC University. She was awarded for prestigious Chevening Scholarship by the UK Government in the field of Human Rights and Rule of Law and completed her specialized Master of Laws (LL.M) in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She is the President of Chevening Society of Bangladesh, advisory member of Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA), and member of Dhaka Bar Association. She is co-editor of “Compendium on National & International Laws and Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh” and author of several research papers.
