Aruba Faruque is a remarkable 17-year-old climate and environmental activist from Bangladesh. She is currently studying in 11th grade. Aruba is one of the very few leading child activists in the country. Aruba holds the prestigious position of “Adolescent Ambassador for Climate and Health” at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, People’s Republic of Bangladesh. She also plays a pivotal role in the Fridays4Future movement and serves as the Deputy National Coordinator of Youth Net Global. Aruba's journey towards climate and environmental justice commenced at just 13 years old in 2019. At the age of 14 in March 2021, she boldly launched a petition, appealing to the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh to implement the Bangladesh Planetary Emergency Declaration and integrate climate education into the school curriculum. This initiative marked her as the youngest-ever citizen of Bangladesh to launch a petition. The petition’s impact led to the groundbreaking decision by the Ministry of Education in May 2022 to include "Climate and Environment" as a designated learning field in the restructured curriculum. She has been awarded the esteemed title of "Climate Advocacy Champion" from Green TV USA and has been aptly known as the "Greta Thunberg of Bangladesh" by The Sustainable Hour Australia. In the realms of both local and global activism, Aruba Faruque shines as a true climate justice activist. I am happy to share my knowledge and resources with other youths and communities so that they can be inspired from the journey and follow to contribute even more.
